The Wombat Foundation has raised more than $200,000 to support the northern hairy-nosed wombat.

This has included:

- The purchase of video monitoring systems to capture vital information on this elusive species.

-
An automatic weighing system to allow for non-invasive check-ups on the wombats.

- DNA analysis of wombat hair collected from burrow entrances. The innovative 'hair census' provides critical information on genetic diversity and population dynamics.

-
Improved facilities for volunteer caretakers to perform their duties at Epping Forest National Park.

- Vital scientific research into the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat: the closest cousin of the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat. The recovery plan for the Northern Hairy-nosed Wombat includes a goal to establish a captive population to safeguard the species against losses in the wild. Information gleaned from the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat helps scientists prepare for a captive population of Northern Hairy-nosed Wombats.

- The first Wombat Conference in 16 years, bringing together researchers and other wombat experts.
