Epping Forest National Park (Scientific)

Epping Forest National Park (Scientific), north-west of Clermont in central Queensland, was established in 1971 to protect the last known population of Northern Hairy-nosed Wombats.

Wombats occupy only about 500 hectares of the 3160 hectares of the park because most of the park's soils are heavy clays, which aren't suitable for burrowing in.

In recent years dingoes were responsible for the deaths of a substantial number of Northern Hairy-nosed Wombats. As a result, the park is now completely surrounded by a large fence in order to keep these predators out.

To make sure these endangered wombats aren't disturbed, only scientists, volunteers and park rangers can enter Epping Forest National Park (Scientific).
